INTERDISCIPLINARY STUDIES
The College of Social Sciences and Interdisciplinary Studies was established in 1996 and is the secondlargest college at Sacramento State. Through our 15 departments/programs as well as associated centers,
we serve our students and the community through teaching, scholarship, and engagement. We help
shape the future leaders of our region and beyond through a broad offering of majors, all connected in
their commitment to social justice and equity. Our programming encompasses learning opportunities
both in and out of the classroom to study diverse and complex questions related to society and the
human experience. We examine past, present, and future issues at the local, national, and global level
through intersectional approaches. The disciplines in the College encompass cultural, developmental,
economic, environmental, ethnic, health, identity, policy, political, psychological, and social frameworks.
Our students graduate ready to use their education to challenge the status quo, effect change, and work
toward a better society.
