COLLEGE OF NATUR AL SCIENCES AND M ATHEM ATICS
The College of Natural Sciences and Mathematics educates a richly diverse scientific workforce and
fosters scientific and mathematical literacy in the greater community. Our degree programs, research
opportunities, internships, and strong student support prepare graduates to achieve lifetime career
success, contribute to knowledge, and help solve societal problems. Our faculty, students, and graduates
promote regional progress through professional activities and community collaborations.
College programs emphasize hands-on experiences and interaction with professors. Extraordinary
opportunities for students include our Summer Undergraduate Research Experience Program, a
Professional Science Master’s in Stem Cell Research, a Certificate in Scientific Computing and Simulation,
and more. Collaborating with faculty, students participate in research that often focuses on issues of
regional importance, and each year, students present the results of their research at scientific conferences
throughout the region and nationally. Students in the classroom have access to state-of-the-art
instrumentation and unique facilities such as a well field for monitoring groundwater, a planetarium, and
an astronomy observatory.
We believe that science more effectively serves society when informed by diverse perspectives. We are
committed to recruiting and graduating students from populations typically underrepresented in the
sciences. We nurture the success of our students through effective academic support programs. We strive
to support regional progress by increasing the number of math and science teachers, improving the
pipeline of well-prepared graduates going into science and mathematics fields, and building capacity for
innovation in the region’s workforce.
Congratulations to our graduates!
